The Legend of Aang

The series known as Avatar The Last Airbender to the United States audience is also known as The Legend Of Aang adding to the international spin that Avatar The Last Airbender has. The series was created in part by Bryan Konietzko, in the Spring of 2001. The idea was born from a simple sketch created in 2001 of an elderly balding monk, that was redesigned to be the character of a child. From this early sketching Konietzko was able to bring to life the beginnings of The Legend of Aang, or as most of the english speaking world knows of him, Avatar the Last Airbender.

From this simple beginning Bryan was able to introduce the idea and concept to Mike DiMartino, who at the time had been working on various other projects but found a great amount of interest in the story and character that Bryan had envisioned.

Avatar The Last Airbender was then next introduced to the public, where else but at Comic Con. But it was not until the Comic Con of 2004 that the series and idea was unveiled to the public, and it came to no surprise that the Comic Con audience showed nothing but support for the new series. The first time that Avatar The Last Airbender was aired on TV it was done in a 1 hour block featuring not only the first episode but also the second, this took place in February 21, 2005. The one hour premier for Avatar The Last Airbender introduced it to a waiting public that had accepted the new series with open arms. Before Avatar The Last Airbender there had never been a cartoon that combined the Anime and Toon types of cartoon story telling, and helped to introduce thousands of views to a whole new type of cartoon.
